Annual Tree Lighting

tree lightOn Saturday, November 28, as a part of Kannapolis Christmas, the City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department once again light the Community Christmas Tree at Village Park to kick off the Celebration of Lights for the season! This year, the Tree Lighting will feature local musicians beginning at 6:00pm and culminate at 6:30 with a special guest in attendance to light the tree and help launch a brilliant fireworks show!

Celebration of Lights & Winterland Express

xmas lightsKCelebrate the Christmas spirit all month long in Kannapolis with the Celebration of Lights. The Celebration of Lights boasts more than 250,000 lights and takes place at Village Park nightly from November 28 through December 30th (closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).  Walk through the park and enjoy the many light displays or ride the Winterland Express and see if you can find all 12 Days of Christmas!

Kannapolis Cruise-In

Kannapolis Wine Festival

winefestDowntown Kannapolis, Inc. hosted a wine-tasting event from 2:00-6:00pm in the Old Cabarrus Bank Building.  Approximately seven vineyards/wineries shared a selection of their wines. Tickets were $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Admission included a souvenir wine glass, hors d’oeuvres, music, door prizes, and local wine and crafts for purchase.

NC Music Hall of Fame Induction

2016 HallofFameIn the past the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame has held its annual induction ceremony at the Gem Theatre. However, his year, the event has moved and will be held on October 20, 2016 from 7:15pm - 10:00pm at the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center (KPAC), 415 East First Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083

This year’s eight inductees will be honored for the great contributions they have made to American music. Those who are receiving the honor of induction into the Hall include:

  • The Avett Brothers - folk rock/Americana band from Concord, NC
  • The Band of Oz - pioneer beach band from Raleigh, NC
  • Chuck Brown - the "Godfather of Go-Go" from Gaston, NC
  • Rhiannon Giddens and the Carolina Chocolate Drops - old time string band formed in Durham, NC
  • Percy Heath - Jazz bassist from Wilmington, NC
  • David Holt - folk musician & story teller from Asheville, NC
  • Kellie Pickler - country artist from Albemarle, NC
  • Ron Tyson - member of the Temptations from Monroe, NC
